Kyla's Do You Mind: From UK Funky to Drake and TikTok

Nearly two decades after becoming one of UK Funky's defining anthems, Kyla's “Do You Mind” is reaching a new generation. From Crazy Cousinz and Drake to MOLIY and TikTok, this is a remarkable story of musical longevity.

Some songs define a summer. Others define an entire generation. “Do You Mind” has managed to do both — almost 20 years apart.

Where It All Began: Kyla, DJ Paleface and Crazy Cousinz

Released in the late 2000s, Kyla and DJ Paleface's Do You Mind became inseparable from the rise of UK Funky. The Crazy Cousinz remix, with its rolling percussion, unforgettable vocal and instantly recognisable groove, became a defining club anthem.

For those who experienced UK Funky's golden era, it evokes packed dancefloors, pirate radio, DJs and a distinctive moment in British music culture.

2016: Drake Takes Do You Mind Worldwide

In 2016, Drake released One Dance, featuring Wizkid and Kyla. The song sampled Do You Mind, introducing Kyla's voice to an enormous international audience.

One Dance spent 15 weeks at number one on the UK Singles Chart. For UK Funky, the global success demonstrated how a record rooted in Britain's underground dance scene could influence mainstream pop on a worldwide scale.

2026: A New Generation Discovers the Anthem

Almost two decades after its original release, Do You Mind experienced a fresh surge of attention on TikTok. Its memorable vocal soundtracked videos, dances and creative clips, introducing the track to listeners who may never have experienced the original UK Funky era.

A Do You Mind (All Versions) release appeared in May 2026, while Gordo and Kyla released another version in August. The record kept evolving without losing its original identity.

The MOLIY Remix: Another Chapter

A remix involving Kyla and MOLIY also entered the story, receiving BBC Radio 1Xtra airplay in September 2026. It added another contemporary interpretation to a track that has already travelled across generations and musical styles.

TikTok's UK Song of the Summer 2026

In September 2026, TikTok named Kyla and DJ Paleface's Do You Mind its UK Song of the Summer 2026.

The platform reported:

• More than 543 million views of UK TikTok videos using the track over the summer.
• More than 644,000 UK TikTok creations featuring the song.
• Number one in its UK Songs of the Summer ranking.

These figures refer to TikTok video views and creations — not music streams. Even with that distinction, the milestone is extraordinary for a track with roots in the UK Funky scene of the late 2000s.

Why Do You Mind Still Matters

For the original UK Funky generation, Do You Mind represents clubs, raves, pirate radio and an unforgettable era.

For fans of Drake's One Dance, it is the vocal that helped power a global hit.

For today's TikTok audience, it is a fresh discovery.

One song. Multiple generations. A legacy that keeps growing.

Is UK Funky Making a Comeback?

The renewed attention surrounding Do You Mind is part of a wider interest in British dance music and the sounds of UK Garage, Funky House and UK Funky.

But for the people who kept playing these records, the music never truly disappeared. Its rhythms and melodies have continued to inspire DJs, producers and audiences.

What's changed is the number of people discovering it for the first time.
